British design magazine Disegno  asked eleven designers to design an emoji we felt was neccessary in 2018. As gene editing (and the need for discussion about its impact) proliferates, I think we need a CRISPR emoji for all those tricky texts. Disegno asked us each to write 100 words to explain the rationale for our proposed emoji. I wrote mine as a short story in a text message:
